We just got back this evening from The Mayo Clinic in Rochester. What an impressive hospital! I have never had such a great experience at any medial facility, anywhere! From the door greeters to the nurses and doctors, everyone was so incredibly kind and happy. I can see why Mayo has such an impecable reputation. We feel so blessed to be so close to such a great hospital! http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester/After 2 hours of preliminary paperwork, we met with Dr. Elizabeth Haglind, a phenomenal doctor and fellow at The Mayo Clinic. She basically did all of the "grunt work" of gathering up all of the details about Jess, and then conferenced with Dr. Paul Carpenter. Dr. Paul Carpenter is the Endocrinologist that Jess was sent to see. After a swift physical exam, he explained that he wants to run a few more tests before any surgery. He wants to make sure that we are not missing any important details about the adenoma. They want to know exactly what they are "going after", before they do any surgery. They want to know the exact size, shape, position etc. When I had my tumor, it was a bit different in that it was not a secreting tumor, like Jessie's is. Mine was very round and easy to remove. Jessie's seems to be a bit more difficult to make out on the scans. The testings that have been done up to this point should have shown more of a balance in Jessie's adrenal and pituitary levels. Since they did not, the doctors are requesting further testing, which Jess will start at home (24 hour urine tests) on Saturday and finish off on Tuesday. The formal name of it is, dexamethasone suppression test http://www.cushings-help.com/dex_tests.htm In conjunction with these tests, she has to be at Mayo again on Monday and Tuesday mornings. On Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., we will meet again with Dr. Carpenter to discuss and review the results. At that time they will determine if they need to do a procedure called: inferior petrosal sinus sampling http://www.cushings-help.com/petrossal.htm Again, they are being extremely thorough in all that they have done so far, which we are so thankful for! She is in the very best of hands (in more ways than one :)!Jessie is so encouraged by all of your lovely notes for her in the guestbook, you guys are such a blessing to us all!! She's been printing them all out! We are so thankful for you! Thank you for praying!
Love, Liz
